MyFastNote
Open, type, leave
MyFastNote is for the things you want to write down before they are gone: a phone number, something to buy, a thought. Tap the widget and the keyboard is up; type and leave, and the note is saved. There is nothing to name and nowhere to file it. Everything you write lands in one stream, newest at the bottom, like a chat with yourself, and the app decides where one note ends and the next begins.
For Android 10 and newer.
- 6languages, from Czech and English to Portuguese
- 4colours to mark notes, each with a name of your own
- 30days a deleted note waits in the trash
- 5dated copies of your backup kept in its folder
What it does
Nothing to tap first
Every way in opens the same small writing screen with the keyboard already up. Type and leave with Back, a tap outside or Home, and the note is saved. An empty field saves nothing, and there is no Save button.
Many ways in
A home-screen widget, a Quick Settings tile, a notification you type into, a long-press on the app icon, or text shared or selected in another app. The widget and the icon also start dictation through your phone's speech recognition.
One stream, no filing
All notes are one list, newest at the bottom. A new record begins after a pause (20 minutes unless you change it), on a new day, or when you pick another colour. Merge and split put it right when the app guessed wrong.
Checklists and light formatting
Add a checkbox with one tap and tick it later in the list. Bullets, bold and italic take a few plain signs. Lists carry on when you press Enter, and a checklist shows how far it has got, such as 2/5.
Four colours and bold
Mark a note red, amber, green or blue, or make it bold. Give each colour a name of your own, such as work or family, and let a colour add a checkbox to its notes by itself.
Search, filters and a calendar
Search ignores accents and capitals and finds half-typed words; quotes and a dash narrow it. Filters show one colour, bold notes, open to-dos or notes with links. A month calendar marks the days that have notes.
Undo instead of questions
Swipe a note away to delete it. Undo is offered for a few seconds after a delete, a merge or a change of colour, and deleted notes wait in the trash for 30 days.
Your notes as plain Markdown
Choose a folder once and the app writes all notes there as one Markdown file when you leave it, at most once an hour, with five dated copies beside it. Export a date range or picked notes, and import the file on a new phone.
Private by design
No ads, no analytics, no account. The app has no permission to use the internet, so notes stay on the phone unless you share, export or back them up. An optional lock asks for your fingerprint or PIN before notes are shown.
Questions and answers
How do I start a new note?
You do not have to. Write, and the app starts a new record by itself when more than the pause you set has passed since the newest one was begun (20 minutes at first), when the day has changed, or when you pick a colour or bold that the newest record does not have. Otherwise your text is added to the newest record as a new line. If you want a new record at once, tap New note in the app.
Where are my notes kept?
On your phone, in the app's own storage. The app has no permission to use the internet and sends nothing to us. The notes are also left out of the backup Android makes to your Google account. A copy leaves the phone when you choose a backup folder, export a file or share a note; the privacy policy has the details.
How do I move my notes to a new phone?
On the old phone, choose a backup folder in Settings or use Export everything in the three-dot menu. That gives you one Markdown file. Copy it to the new phone and use Import from file in Settings there. Import skips notes that are already present, so importing the same file twice does no harm.
Can I lock my notes?
Yes. Lock the notes in Settings makes the app ask for your fingerprint or your phone's PIN before it shows them. Writing from the widget, the Quick Settings tile and the notification still works without unlocking, and the widget stops showing note text. The lock does not encrypt the notes, and backup and export files are plain text.
What if I delete a note by mistake?
Tap Undo, which is offered at the bottom of the screen for a few seconds. After that the note waits in the Trash in Settings for 30 days, where you can restore it. What cannot be undone is Delete all notes, and Delete forever and Empty trash in the trash itself.
Does it have folders, tags or reminders?
No, on purpose. There is one stream of notes. Four colours, search, filters and a calendar are how you find things. There are no reminders, no sync, no accounts and no pictures or attachments.
What does it cost?
Nothing. MyFastNote is free. There is nothing to buy in the app, no subscription and no advertisements.
